The distinguished artist David Lloyd started working on comics in the late 1970’s. Thirty years ago, in 1982, together with the writer Alan Moore they created the work which was the turning point in their career, “V for Vendetta”. The story brings us to a dystopia future where a mysterious man, V, fights against a fascist government. The mask of V, we never see his face, is inspired by Guy Fawkes, an English catholic parliamentarian who in 1605 played a leading role in the Conspiracy of Powder. The two artists describe, almost prophetically, a dark future through allusions to authors like George Orwell and Aldus Huxley. The series was drawn in black and white for the “Warrior” magazine and when it stopped coming out, the series was republished in colour by DC Comics. As a graphic novel it was published in 1995. The film version of V for Vendetta contributed to its worldwide fame and the mask created by Lloyd for the central hero became a symbol of political disobedience and activism. Lloyd has also drawn episodes for the series Espers, Hellblazer, War Story, Global Frequency, Hulk, Doctor Who, The Territory, Aliens, and James Bond. Besides V for Vendetta, another distinguished work typical of Lloyd (art and text) is Kickback, a deep pessimistic, violent, claustrophobic, noir graphic novel.
