Filmic Materials Resistance

Cinema / Video

Ten great Greek films test the strength of their materials. People drawn to extremes, characters put under pressure. Conditions which twist, deform or crash. Using five terms from mechanical construction (twist, crash, pressure, deformation, breakage), the 1970’s generation of the New Greek Cinema competes with the current generation of the New Greek Wave. What has changed? What were the limits of strength then and what are they now? What are the differences in materials? Reflecting on these questions, Angelos Frantzis selects, presents, and coordinates the film screenings of the 14th Athens International Comics Festival trying to build bridges and unearth eclectic affiliations. Each screening starts at 21:00, with an introduction and a subsequent discussion with the audience.
